Find a way to watch this movie. Then, when you have about two hours of alone time (I stress alone), pull the shades down tight, turn off every light in your house, shut off your cell phone and computer, make sure your mind is nice and opened, and watch “Begotten”. Your mind will never be the same, and that my friends is a very good thing. I won’t tell you too much about the plot, because you should watch it and decide for yourself what you just watched. I will tell you that it’s basic plot is about the birth, death, and rebirth of “Gods” throughout human history.
But, seriously this movie is one that will stick with you for the rest of your life. E. Elias Merhige (Shadow of the Vampire) used a no dialogue approach and mixed it with grainy, haunting black and white film. The result is some of the most soul shaking imagery ever put to film.
Don’t watch this movie for entertainment purposes. It is the absolute antithesis of a Hollywood blockbuster. Watch it to blow you mind, and realize how powerful the art of film can be.
