Aftermath (Akibet) – A short film about the loss of loved ones

Written and directed by: Tofic Rzayev

Starring: Gizem Aybike Sahin and Berkan Uygun

Aftermath is a Turkish short film centered on a brother and sister who have just lost their parents. The film spends it’s 8 minute run time focusing on how the siblings react emotionally to the tragedy they are being forced to deal with. While the sister is open to talk about what she is feeling and hopeful that they can lean on one another, the brother would rather not discuss it and when forced to reacts angrily. As often happens in such situations, the person who is unwilling to talk and be there for the other doesn’t realize the damage they are doing.

A good short film tells a poignant or effective story in it’s allotted frame of time. A great one makes you wish you could see the rest of the story. With “Aftermath” writer/director Tofic Rzayev has made a great short film. My only complaint is that I wish there was more. You can watch “Aftermath” below.
